National Trust’s Hanbury Hall near Droitwich Spa is celebrating the launch of its new restaurant, The Courtyard Kitchen.
Sitting on the footprint of a former service wing, the new restaurant fuses old with new, with a glazed link connecting the modern extension to the Grade I listed Hall. It’s simple, modern design complements the surrounding architecture and also reveals never seen before areas of the Hall such as the service bells.
The Courtyard Kitchen is fully accessible, with ramped access into the building, and inside the Hall, for the first time. There’s also a new accessible toilet. The restaurant can be reached from the Stableyard through the reinstated historic archway.
A new menu offers a range of meals to suit all tastes, with recipes using organic produce freshly picked from the Walled Garden. Seating extends into the Hall, with comfortable armchairs facing out onto the formal gardens.
The Courtyard Kitchen has been designed to align with the conservation charity’s commitment to sustainability. Oak sourced from neighbouring National Trust property, Brockhampton Estate, has been used in its construction, and the restaurant also benefits from renewable energy. Two new biomass boilers recently installed on site power the underfloor heating and hot water.
Caroline Lawrence, Visitor Operations and Experience Manager, says: “We are delighted to announce that the Courtyard Kitchen is now open. With a delicious new menu, bright, spacious seating areas, a beautiful courtyard, and charming views over the Parterre garden, the Courtyard Kitchen offers the perfect place for visitors to relax and enjoy a bite to eat after exploring Hanbury Hall.”
Hanbury Hall is free to visit for National Trust members. For more information and opening times visit nationaltrust.org.uk/hanbury-hall.
