The long established and popular Bromsgrove Folk Festival has found a new home at Avoncroft Museum of Buildings in Bromsgrove.
This new partnership brings two worlds together in a celebration of all things ‘folk’ – to provide a weekend of music, dance, story, food and crafts.
Bromsgrove Folk Festival organisers have been running this local friendly festival for over 30 years. They describe themselves as ‘enormous in heart and aspiration dedicated to bringing the best in folk, roots and acoustic music, from far and wide.’
Avoncroft Museum provides a perfect setting for this small and friendly festival with 19 acres, and numerous historic buildings there is plenty of space for fringe events such as story-telling, folk dance, crafts and workshops.
Zoe Willems, Director of Avoncroft Museum said; “The Folk Festival seems like a perfect partnership with Avoncroft Museum – we are both all about telling stories ordinary people can relate to. The Folk Festival team are experts in arranging a fabulous line-up of music throughout the weekend. The original vision for the Museum in the 1960’s was as a ‘Folk Village’ so there is some historic precedent – but we look forward to bringing it fully up to date with arts, crafts and lots of chances for families to get involved.”
Bromsgrove Folk Festival is so much more than a series of concerts with headline artists. Club singers and budding artists are encouraged to add to the Bromsgrove Experience with singarounds, open mics, and the like including, of course, the legendary sessions. Then there is the Ukulele Workshop (BUMS) and the Festival Choir (BOTOMS). Artists announced so far for the 2023 festival include The Jigantics (pictured), The Lost Notes, Colum Sands, Anthony John Clarke, Dave Gibb, Vicky Swan and Jonny Dyer and many more.
Bob Bignell of the Bromsgrove Folk Festival said; “We are delighted and very excited to be taking Bromsgrove Folk Festival into its fourth decade onto the site of, and in association with Avoncroft Museum of Buildings. The possibilities that this collaboration present are enormous, and we look forward to working with the Museum team to establish a truly unique event in the folk calendar”
Tickets can now be purchased with options for day, evening, and weekend tickets. Discounted early bird weekend tickets are available online at avoncroft.org.uk.
