There's something alien heading to Coventry this half term as The Smeds And The Smoos visit Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry, from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 June.

Based on the award-winning book by author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler, The Smeds And The Smoos is set on a far-off planet where the blue Smoos and red Smeds can't be friends. So when a young Smed and Smoo fall in love, their families are furious, forcing the youngsters to zoom off spacewards.

An interplanetary adventure for ages 3+, The Smeds And The Smoos is the latest family production from Tall Stories (The Gruffalo, Room On The Broom).

As well as soaring into space with The Smeds And The Smoos, other activities suitable for families over the Summer Half-Term break include two free Family Sundays (Sun 28 May, Sun 4 Jun, from 1.30pm) led by our artists-in-residence; and Workshop Wednesday (Wed 31 May, from 1.30pm, free), where would-be artists can experiment creating art with unexpected tools.

Additionally, visitors can drop into Warwick Arts Centre’s custom-made Art Studio and create imagery inspired by the vibrant and colourful gallery exhibition The Reason For Painting (Tue-Sun, until Sun 25 Jun, free).

There's also an hour of singing, moving and dancing for all ages when Family Singing (Sun 28 May, 11.30am, free) returns too, while My First Concert: A Teddy Bear's Picnic (Thu 1 Jun, 1pm, adults £5, child free) offers those aged 0-7 years (and their cuddly toys) a chance to experience classical music for the first time.

Meanwhile, the Arts Centre's cinema will also be screening animated adventure My Fairy Troublemaker (cert U; Fri 26 May to Thu 1 Jun), in which a lost tooth fairy has to team up with a 12-year-old girl to find her way back to the fairy world.
