This summer the New Vic are offering young people the chance to spend some time exploring the world of theatre as they stage two projects designed to engage creative minds during the holidays.
Led by the New Vic’s Youth Theatre Director Amy Fletcher, Play In A Week, from Monday 31 July to Friday 4 August, offers young people aged 10 to 15 the opportunity to literally create a ‘play in a week’.
Working with a brand new script, The Island, which tells the tale of a group of friends who take a boat to a summer island and discover a time-capsule filled with stories of adventures gone by, participants will explore the characters and story, decide how they’d like to bring it to life on stage, cast the show from the group, create the setting and rehearse, before finally sharing their performance with family and friends at the end of the week.
Then, across Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 August, the New Vic Education department will also offer younger participants two days of activities around the theme of Young Adventurers.
Inviting participants aged six to nine to bring their energy and imaginations to the theatre, these two fun-packed days of activities offer children the chance to create their own characters on the set of The Island (the show created during Play In A Week), alongside fun arts, crafts and drama games. Young Adventurers will be a playful two days that are a chance for children to be creative and make friends.
