A new children’s play attraction in Brewood, near Stafford, has revealed details and the first images of its indoor and outdoor adventure facility. 

The Hockerhill Adventure Playbarn, owned and managed by the Chillington Hall estate, is due to open later this year and draws inspiration from the estate’s rich history. 

The centrepiece is a giant mock oak tree modelled on the one that King Charles II hid in at Boscobel House as he fled Oliver Cromwell at the Battle of Worcester. Right at the heart of the playbarn, this central turret allows children to explore the many bridges, high-level walkways, tunnels, slides and rope equipment that awaits them. 

For added excitement, the Hockerhill pedal go-kart track starts indoors before heading outside on a winding tarmac track where thrill seekers can channel their inner Formula 1 driving and set their best lap time. 

Charlie Giffard, custodian of Chillington Hall and Estate, said: “Nearly five years in the making, Hockerhill Adventure Playbarn has been a long-held ambition of the family and something we’ve been continually working on behind-the-scenes, since we took over management of the estate.” 

Motivated by their own family’s need for quality time and fun, Charlie and his wife Tessa researched attractions in the region, both online and via personal trips with their young family. Uninspired by what they found, the idea of Hockerhill was born. 

“Hockerhill has been created to fill that gap in the market, where children are encouraged to explore, learn and have adventures, whilst adults are catered for with plenty of delicious food and drink and comfortable chairs, knowing all the needs of their family are met,” added Tessa. 

A spacious outdoor area with zip lines, swings, slides, sand pit and a bespoke toddler area will be open year-round, with outdoor seating and picnic benches accompanied by an outdoor hut serving pizzas and delicious ice cream. There’s also an inside food and drink counter, serving hot food, sandwiches, cakes and other treats and refreshments.
