Making a welcome visit to Birmingham as part of a UK tour, Giovanni Pernice will bring his forthcoming show Made in Italy to Symphony Hall on Saturday 8 April.
Made in Italy follows on from the Italian’s hugely successful sold-out 2022 tour This is Me, which thrilled audiences up and down the country.
Pernice, a professional dancer on the hit BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing since 2015, has become one of the best-loved and most successful dancers on the programme. He secured a place in the final three times before finally lifting the glitter ball in 2021 with celebrity partner Rose Ayling-Ellis, the show’s first ever deaf contestant.
In his own words, Giovanni described himself as “always the bridesmaid, never the bride”, but has now gone on to make history; Rose being the first deaf contestant on the show and going on to win, as well as their iconic show dance which they danced in complete silence- a historic moment for which they went on to win a BAFTA. If that wasn’t enough, Giovanni and Rose also received the earliest ever perfect score in the show’s history, as well as Giovanni overtaking former professional dancer Pasha Kovalev to receive the most ever 10s.
Made in Italy will be a journey to Giovanni’s homeland where he will be joined by an outstanding ensemble of some of the best dancers and singers from the worlds of ballroom and theatre. The leading lady is Birmingham’s own Lauren Oakley, one of Strictly Come Dancing’s newest professionals and Burn the Floor dancer. Other dancers include Pasquale La Rocca who has won Dancing with the Stars four times in a row, plus Michelle Adams from the UK and international tours of Chicago.
The Italian themed show features an incredible soundtrack, stunning choreography and beautiful costumes. The Director and Choreographer is Alan Burkitt, a West End star who has performed in Curtains, Top Hat and We Will Rock You. His choreography credits include Strictly Come Dancing, So You Think You Can Dance?, Fascinating Aida, Anton and Giovanni: Him and Me and Giovanni Pernice: This is Me.
Giovanni Pernice will bring Made in Italy to Symphony Hall on Saturday 8 April at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale here.
