Birmingham Hippodrome has announced additions to its 2024 programme including a stellar line-up of West End and Broadway smash-hit musicals.
Fat Rascal Theatre's Unfortunate:The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch will show on the Hippodrome's main stage (11 - 13 April) following sold out performances in the Patrick Studio in 2019. Certain to make audiences chuckle, the show is a dive into Ursula's backstory complete with an original hot pop soundtrack and much-loved characters.
Welsh National Opera (WNO) will bring two new productions to Birmingham in spring. Mozart's comic opera Cosi fan tutte (10 May) aka The School for Lovers, and Britten's Death in Venice (11 May) both feature.
Olivier and Tony Award winner Come From Away stops off at the Hippodrome (21 May - 1 June) as part of its first UK tour. The production tells the real-life story of the 7,000 air passengers from all over the world who were grounded in Canada during the wake of 9/11, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these ‘come from aways’ into their lives with open hearts.
The venue will also welcome a new production of The Wizard of Oz (11 - 16 June) and West End smash-hit Bonnie & Clyde in the autumn (3 - 7 September).
Other hit musicals returning to the theatre include Sister Act (13 - 18 May), international phenomenon Six The Musical (18 - 22 June) and much-loved musical Hairspray (16 - 21 September).
Children's favourite Dear Zoo returns to the stage in the spring (11 - 16 April), while dance fans can look forward to Aakash Odedra and Aditi Mangaldas’ Mehek - an enchanting exploration of the human heart, its desires, courage, and resilience (Tues 9 Apr 2024).
Carlos Acosta - On Before (Mon 6 & Tues 7 May 2024) is a homage to Carlos’ late mother and is the most personal work he has ever created. The production features choreography by world-renowned artists Russell Maliphant, Kim Banstrup and Will Tuckett - alongside Carlos’ own choreography.
Talking about the newly added shows, Jon Gilchrist, Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer at Birmingham Hippodrome said: “We’re so pleased to announce a fantastic line-up of productions coming to Birmingham in 2024 in what will be our 125th year. I’m also delighted that we have now opened The Circle Lounge, which is already providing our audiences with a whole new set of ‘goosebumps moments’ on tasting the wonderful food by Angelina Adamo.”
