Following a fierce battle from 200 entrants, Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham has announced that 12-year-old Harry Hill, has been named the Midlands’ best Lego creator after entering the attractions Mini Master Model Builder UK competition.

Harry, who is a self-confessed Lego fanatic, made the trip to Birmingham from his home in Kirkby-In Ashfield, Nottingham, after begging his mum to make the 120-mile round trip to Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham so he could enter the competition after he saw a post on social media.  

Despite building Lego for as long as he can remember, Harry’s love for creating epic builds only really took off two years ago, where he’s since gone on to construct numerous creations, including his favourite, a Lego Ninjago Temple.

On being crowned Birmingham’s best Lego creator, Harry said, “I can’t believe it’s happened to me; it feels amazing! When I saw the Mini Master Model Builder UK competition advertised, I knew I had to enter. My mum said she’d only take me to Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham if I promised not to argue with my sister. It was hard, but I’m so glad I was able to do it.”

The competition, which ran through January and February, gave children the chance to show off their Lego building skills in a bid to become the Mini Master Model Builder at both the Birmingham and Manchester Legoland Discovery Centres.

The Lego build deemed the best each weekend, at each attraction, was entered into the semi-final and judged by the Global Master Model builder, with Harry’s television inspired set coming out victorious.

Of his creation, Harry said: “I was really happy to have won the semi-final and am pretty proud of the TV set Lego build I created. It had a twist button on top so when it spun round, it looked like the channels were changing. It took me about two hours to build, it wasn’t an easy creation.”  

Harry will now take on 13-year-old, Luke Harrison, who was voted Legoland Discovery Centre Manchester’s best Lego creator. The final will see Harry and Luke go head-to-head in a decisive challenge to create a build that showcases the city of either Birmingham or Manchester. The entries will be judged by both Legoland Discovery Centres and the Global Master Model Builder, with the winner crowned the UK’s Mini Master Model Builder.

When asked about his build for the final, Harry commented: “I’ve started building it already, I think it’s a great idea and it’s coming along really nicely. I don’t want to share too many details, but my build is themed around the upcoming Coronation and how the people of Birmingham might be celebrating.

“I’m really excited to complete my final entry into the Mini Master Model Builder UK competition. To win and have my build go into Miniland would be amazing, it’s my favourite part of the attraction, so having something I’ve built placed in there for all to see would be awesome.”
